چکیده

In the previous experiments (Takeya et al., 1959b) the interactions of Mycobacterium avium with mycobacteriophage B-1 were studied by cyttilogical techniques, and the latent period of the B-1 phage infecting the host cell was determined under the conditions used in the preparation for electron microscopy. The present paper deals with the results of experiments on the interactions of mycobacteriophage B-1 with Mycobacterium avium as revealed by electron microscopy.

Light and electron microscope studies of Mycobacterium-mycobacteriophage interactions. I. Light microscope studies.

Several mycobacteriophages active against mycobacteria have been isolated by Takeya and Yoshimura (1957) using the soil-enrichment technique. Among these phages, B-1 was found to have the broadest host range including virulent strains of tubercle bacilli. In the present investigation the interactions between mycobacteriophage B-1 and its host strain Mycobacterium avium were examined under the l...

Light and Electron Microscope Studies of Mycobacterium—mycobacteriophage Interactions

The process of multiplication of mycobacteriophage B-1 in its host cell was studied by means of an improved technic of ultrathin sectioning. The appearance of the nuclear apparatus was not altered throughout the latent period. Phage-shaped dense particles appeared about 30 minutes after infection in less dense areas neighboring the nuclear apparatus and occasionally at the margin of the nuclear...

Light and electron microscope of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) organs following exposure to various sublethal concentrations of diazinon

Histopathological effects of different sublethal concentrations (1, 2 and 4 mg/l) of diazinon, an organophosphorus pesticide, on gill, liver, spleen and kidney of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) were studied after 1, 7, 15, 30 and 45 days post-exposing fishes weighting 850 ± 155 g to the toxicant for 12 hours at 18-22ºC. In addition, tissues of nostril were examined for transmission electr...

The Influence of Environment on the Shell Structure of Starch Granules

It is well known from light microscope studies of potato starch that the granules formed in a constant environment (of light and temperature) have a ring formation indistinguishable from that of granules formed under field conditions. Electron microscope studies have confirmed that normal potato starch granules have a fine shell structure not usually resolved by the light microscope, and also t...
